Sun Shield Matte Broad Sunscreen

Short Summary of the Product

Skin is the largest organ, and to say it’s important to take care is an understatement. Taking care of ones skin is rewarding, and doing so has never looked – or felt – so good. Obagi Sunshield Matte Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is different from drugstore sunscreens because it combines protection from UVB and UVA in a way that’s chic, comfortable, and easy. Obagi’s Sun Shield is non-comedogenic and dermatologist-tested, and supports  skin in a variety of ways. Whether a person is soaking up the Los Angeles sun, or an individual lives in a less sunny environment, there’s never a wrong time to begin treating ones skin right, and incorporating SPF into a skincare routine. This product dries with a sheer, matte finish, so it won’t leave any of those white sunscreen streaks. The Sun Shield also doesn’t include fragrance or parabens, so it’s safe for all skin types to use. Total win!

First Impression (Packaging, Volume, Design etc.)

First of all, this is definitely ‘not our mother’s SPF!’ Unlike the flashy packaging of other sunscreens, this sunscreen from Obaji would look right at home for a new ‘shelfie.’ It’s sleek- with a clean, bright design. There’s one 3 oz. product per package, which can definitely last a while. The packaging this product arrives in is white with the product description- but there’s something effortlessly cool about its presentation.

My Take (What I liked or didn’t like, favorite features or overall opinion)

The Sun Shield Matte Sunscreen is refreshing and moisturizing. It’s light, it’s matte, and it protects everyone against a variety of harmful rays that can negatively impact skin. Obagi also went through the effort to get this sunscreen dermatologist-tested, and since the formula is non-comedogenic, it won’t block pores.

Quality (How it compares to competitors? Is it worth the price?)

Chances are that this sunscreen costs a bit more than individuals are used to spending on sunscreen. However, it’s important to note the host of benefits a person gets by investing that extra amount into their skin. It’s worth the money because it has been dermatologist tested, protects from different types of harmful rays, and is suitable regardless of skin type. This product is also “reef safe,” unlike many other sunscreens that can destroy coral reefs.

Buy or Use Again?

This sunscreen is for all summer long…and when a person runs out, they’ll be hurrying back to Obagi’s website to order more.

That’s Hot Rating (1-5 hearts)

Four hearts! It’s such a practical product and an important addition to any healthy skincare regimen. That being said, the price point – though it is reasonable for what a persons getting – does play into this assessment. The price could be lower.

Highlight 1

It’s been dermatologist-tested, so everyone can feel good about what they’re putting on their face and body.

There won’t be any gross white sunscreen streaks appearing on the face or body. Instead, it’s matte and will blend right in.

Highlight 4

This product is so pretty! It’ll look great on any skincare shelf or on the beach alike.

Cost Range

This product is just over $50, which isn’t a bad deal for a 3 oz. bottle of skincare that’s safe for the skin and coral reefs.

Cost Compared To Competitors

While other competitor brands might have a similar product for less, individuals are not going to get as much bang for their buck – 3 oz. is a lot for a eco friendly sunscreen!

Pro 1

It is a luxurious purchase, but it’s worth the host of benefits.

Pro 2

It’s nice to know that this sunscreen won’t be harming coral reefs.

This product has been allergy-tested and also includes very consciously selected ingredients.

It’s ideal for all skin types, which means that regardless of having a history of oily skin or otherwise, it’s not going to make a difference with this sunscreen.

Con 1

High price that deters buyers.

Con 2

Various sizes- even larger oz options should be available!

Con 3

There should also be a small travel size, for on the go moments.

Con 4

Reapplication is advised every two hours.

Packaging/Unboxing

The packaging is elegant, making this sunscreen an eye-catching product. Definitely an ideal addition to any beach bag. This is a sunscreen that looks just as good as it feels on.

Shipping

If a person spends $125 or more and signs up for a free Obagi account, then they’ll receive free shipping! Otherwise shipping costs extra.

Good For Gifting?

This would be a great gift idea for anyone who spends a lot of time in the sun and values taking care of their skin. Also, it looks luxurious, which makes it an even more valuable gift. This is definitely a caring gift to give someone.

Ideal Customer (Target Market)

The ideal customer is someone who enjoys soaking up the rays but doesn’t want to have a negative impact on their skin’s overall wellbeing. It’s also someone who’s conscious of marine life – this sunscreen is reef safe, after all. However, the target market has to be a higher age group, considering the price. Men and women ages 30-60, but mostly targeting women.

Customer Service

Reaching out to Customer Service is easy – send them a quick email with any questions, and a customer will get a response in two to three business days. If a person has a question that could have been solved quickly, they can also access the FAQ page!

How Long Does The Product Last?

Sunscreens are good up to three years – but chances are the product won’t last that long, because the Obagi sunscreen is so easy to apply and reapply.

Coupons/sales? What are the normal sales? When do they happen? How much is off?

While the site itself doesn’t have sales that frequently, they do have a program that if a shopper refers a friend, they can get $20 off.

Comparison to Competitor 1

Compared to Glossier’s sunscreen, this product has more oz and a shopper gets more for their money.

Comparison to Competitor 2

Obagi’s sunscreen is lighter than Kinship’s, which tends to be heavy.

Comparison to Competitor 3

Kiehl’s product is similar in price, but only 1.7 oz; significantly smaller than Obagi’s.
